Membership Committee Mtg
Jan. 14, 2025 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Happy New Year Committee Members!

A friendly reminder that our monthly Membership Committee Mtg is coming up next Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 12 - 1:30 p.m. at Harvey and Helene's home, 569 Puloku St. in Sunrise Estates.

The meeting will be focused mostly on the club's membership numbers and brainstorming plans to attract and engage in the second half of our year.  I will also be going over the District's brand new, exciting initiative - "Aloha Action Campaign."

LUNCH - Bring your own.  Keeping things very simple - our regular committee meetings are not pot luck.  We will be doing fun, pot luck Membership celebration meetings a few times a year, like our Christmas meeting/get together.  So fun, esp. with the grab bag giveaways!  But let's keep it simple for this one.

See you on Tuesday!  I'll try to send out an agenda, but if I don't pls just come!  👍🏻 Connie

Satellite SMVF & First Responders Club - Any Is Too Many Suicide Awareness Sign Waving Campaign 11-12pm 22nd of EVERY MONTH
Jan. 22, 2025 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. UTC-10:00
Please Join Us!!! Any Is Too Many Suicide Awareness & Prevention Sign Waving Campaign
The Satellite SMVF & First Responders Club has partnered up with TWV HI, Hawaii Vet2Vet & The Guardian Foundation to raise awareness for Veterans Suicide.  22 Veteran lives were taken by Suicide each month across the United States.  Through our efforts of sign waving, educational classes and campaigns that number statistically has dropped to 17.6.  While it has dropped, we still feel that 1 Veteran life taken per day is too many, therefore in honor of the Veteran lives taken by Suicide, we raise awareness on the 22nd of every month for 1 hour by holding signs and educating others that help is there...Any Is Too Many.

Harvey's Walk and Talk 2025
Jan. 28, 2025 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Back by Popular Demand!  Harvey's Walk and Talk!  yay!

Our resident expert Hilo Historian, Harvey Tajiri will resume a series of Walk and Talks, starting this month.

Each month Harvey will take us on a walking tour of different parts of Hilo.  We started this in 2022-23 and it was such a hit that Naleo TV started a video/podcast series starring the fabulous Harvey, taking viewers/listeners on tours of Hilo!

Take advantage of these special events - there are only 8 spots available (Harvey likes to keep it small and intimate for lots of talk story time) - FIRST COME/FIRST SERVE!

We will meet and park at the Salvation Army Parking lot (TY Capt. Sam for letting us meet/park) ast 10 a.m.  The tour will

Volunteers needed to help at check out and running items to the dedicated registers at Walmart.

These volunteers will be seated and work in pairs to add up the clothing the children will purchase before they get to our registers to check out. They will need to bring cell phones and download the Walmart APP to their phones. The Walmart app has a scanner in it to look up prices as some items are on sale.  If anyone is able, we can take turns running items to the registers as we cannot clog the register areas with carts and kids. We have the families stand back and run the clothes through the registers and bring them to the waiting families so they can leave the store.

Hilo Rotary members Rice Rally for the Hawaii Island Foodbank

The Hawaii Island Foodbank has been working to end hunger since 1989. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to deliver a 10lb bag of rice to our next membership meeting on February 28th, at the Grand Naniloa Hotel.  We want to deliver a1000lbs of rice to assist the Foodbank. As always, if you are unable to complete this mission, the secretary will disavow all knowledge of your actions and have you deliver your package to Day Lum’s Hilo office located at 1477 Kīlauea Ave.

This message will self destruct in 5 seconds...

Impossible Missions #2 - Rotarians At Work Day
Mar. 14, 2025 12:00 p.m. - Apr. 26, 2025 4:00 p.m.

For many young people facing homelessness or housing instability, finding a safe space and the right support can feel overwhelming. That’s why Neighborhood Place of Puna is proud to introduce the Anchor Point Youth Center, a new drop-in center in downtown Hilo designed specifically for youth and young adults aged 14 to 24 who need a helping hand.

Anchor Point Youth Center is the result of a collaborative effort between HOPE Services Hawai’i, Neighborhood Place of Puna, and The Salvation Army. Together, these organizations have created a space where young people can access critical resources and build a foundation for a brighter, more stable future.

Your Mission, if you choose to accept it, is to form eleven teams of like minded Rotarians, to adopt one of eleven Rotary Rooms and fill them with the “must have” items on the attached list. As always, if you are not able to find a team of Rotarians, the Secretary will assign you a team.

This will be our Rotarians At Work Day project for April. Let’s get working to help fill these rooms for Foster Children that are “aging out” of their families and in need of a new place to call home.
